Art Workshop: Spring Celebration: Daffodils (Watercolour)
It's so easy to be inspired by the wild romance of the stunning island of Hoy, Orkney.
In this session we'll be looking specifically at the hosts of golden daffodils which line the island's little roads at this time of year.
We'll start by talking together about the different compositional ways you could make a start on creating your own unique abstract art. The medium we will use is watercolour paint working in a loose flowing style which you will find easy to use to interpret the daffodils.
No prior experience is needed & all materials are provided.
At the end of the session you will take home at least 2 postcard sized completed abstract artworks that you are happy with using watercolour paint on paper, & a multitude of experimental pieces.
We will touch on, or recap, basic art ideas such as colour wheel theory, colour mixing, hard & soft edges, watercolour mark making techniques, lifting out, washes, paint handling techniques, dry brushing, wet in wet, masking out, combining water soluble media, paper preparation, different paper grades & compositional perspectives.
This is a chance to experiment with art ideas, materials & techniques with gentle guidance & encouragement in a relaxed, constructive class. You will work as a small group of six in a light, bright art room right next to a quiet, white sand beach with Orkney birds & wildlife.
Throughout the activity we will focus on constructive evaluation & positive feedback so that your confidence can grow & thrive! There'll also be plenty of opportunity to take a break & relax with coffee & maybe indulge in some homebaked goodies while you look out over the bay.
Although all our classes take inspiration from a new theme or topic, we're quite flexible & you are free to deviate from this at will!
