Art workshop: Orkney Inspiration Journals

Art workshop: Orkney Inspiration Journals

Regular price £15.00 Sale

This uplifting workshop will see you exploring ways to capture inspiration from your coastal walks here in Orkney. Keep them treasured as a journal which will bring back the memories to you long into the future. You’ll find this is relaxing & fun to make and valuable to reflect back on in order to recall happy journeys and experiences from your visit to Orkney. As you create multiple journal pages the book will become a beautiful object in its own right.

During this workshop you will create one or two completed journal pages. You will be shown lots of different examples of both richly decorated and simply illustrated journal pages so you can choose your preferred style of working. We will focus on positive experiences and chat together about what inspires you personally.  Your journal pages will feature fragments of materials such as maps, found materials, grasses, sand, shells, feathers and can be illustrated using a variety of mixed media to include tiny pieces of text and written words or snippets of watercoloured sky, fleeting glimpses of seabirds and shapes & colours of wildflowers.

Your personal journal will capture the very essence of what you find uplifting about your journeys in Orkney, memories that will flood back to you as you look back at those pages in months to come.

If you have scraps you’d like to include in your journal, such as maps and feathers, then please bring them along. Some materials are available on the day or can be scavenged from the beach outside the studio. If you have an old hard backed book or a small sketchbook please bring this along to use as the foundation of a journal. Don’t worry if you can’t find one as you will be shown alternative ways to bind up your pages into a keepsake.

Paints & mixed media art materials & tools are all here for you to use, but if you have your own favourites then please bring them along if you like.

Please allow 3 hours to complete this session running from 10.30 to 1.30.

You are welcome to bring a packed lunch and stay a short while at the end of the session, or you might like to take a stroll along the beach or coastal path outside the studio to complete your inspiring day.
