Art Workshop: Orkney Corals & Underwater Sealife (Inks)
It's so easy to be inspired by the vibrant colours & shapes of the ocean creatures under the sparkling seas here around the stunning island of Hoy, Orkney.
In this session we’re taking inspiration from the underwater coral & amazing diverse ocean life to create loose abstract paintings full of colour, form & texture. We'll be looking at some stunning photographic images of anemones, corals & starfish taken underwater by Orkney divers.
We'll begin by looking at ways of using some of the markings to make a start on creating your own unique abstract art. The medium we will use is alcohol inks working in a loose flowing style which you will find easy to use to interpret the underwater sea life.
No prior experience is needed & all materials are provided.
At the end of the session you will take home at least 3 completed abstract artworks that you are happy with using alcohol inks, & a multitude of experimental pieces.
We will touch on, or recap, basic art ideas such as colour wheel theory, hard & soft edges, mark making & alcohol ink handling techniques, different papers, compositional perspectives & taking the completed pieces forward into new work.
This is a chance to experiment with art ideas, materials & techniques with gentle guidance & encouragement in a relaxed, constructive class. You will work as a small group of six in a light, bright art room right next to a quiet, white sand beach with Orkney birds & wildlife.
Throughout the activity we will focus on constructive evaluation & positive feedback so that your confidence can grow & thrive! There'll also be plenty of opportunity to take a break & relax with coffee & maybe indulge in some homebaked goodies while you look out over the bay.
Although all our classes take inspiration from a new theme or topic, we're quite flexible & you are free to deviate from this at will!
Your friendly encouraging tutor has endless patience & lots of positivity, is an experienced Community Art facilitator with Fine Art qualifications & training to Masters level & has exhibited her own work internationally.
